Excavator Trainer Certification
Excavator Training
IVES Training Group™ offers excellent training programs for mini/compact excavators to standard sized units in the 50,000 lb. GVW range.
Excavator Operator Training
Our staff Certified Trainers can deliver site and equipment specific excavator operator programs at your location. At IVES we pride ourselves on delivering comprehensive, industry leading classroom theory training and hands-on practical training on the equipment that the operator is assigned to use. This training is followed by an evaluation of each operator's knowledge of the equipment and their ability to demonstrate its safe operation. All the vital statistics related to the program, such as the name of the operator and the trainer, the date and location of the training/evaluation, the type of equipment used and of course the operator's knowledge and skill are clearly documented and submitted to the booking entity. Successfully qualified operators receive a photo operator's wallet card as well as a Certificate of Completion.
Excavator Trainer Certification *
IVES can deliver this program at one of our training facilities or at your location. Attendees receive instruction and guidance in the use of the renowned IVES Training System™ which has been used by thousands of companies and individuals to train operators of forklifts, aerial lifts, loaders and now our latest offering, excavators. Trainees are given extensive information on instructional techniques and equipment theory in a fun and interactive format that has them deliver classroom presentations and run practical training and evaluation sessions in the field. As in the operator program, each element of the trainer program is evaluated and documented. Only trainees who are able to successfully demonstrate the required knowledge and skill are qualified as IVES Certified Trainers.
*IVES strongly recommends that persons attending the Excavator Trainer Certification program or our 1-Day Excavator Trainer Upgrade program should also attend the 1-Day Competent Person- Excavation program.
Competent Person - Excavation
If you are going to use an excavator or any other means to dig holes and or trenches into the earth, otherwise known as excavating, OSHA and/or your state regulatory agency have a lot of rules that you must follow, especially if people must enter the excavation. One of the most important rules to take note of is the requirement for excavations to be designed and regularly inspected by a competent person or in some cases, a Professional Engineer. OSHA defines a competent person as:
"Competent person" means one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings, or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
In addition, OSHA regulation 1926.651(k)(1) states:
Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems shall be made by a competent person for evidence of a situation that could result in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, or other hazardous conditions. An inspection shall be conducted by the competent person prior to the start of work and as needed throughout the shift. Inspections shall also be made after every rainstorm or other hazard increasing occurrence. These inspections are only required when employee exposure can be reasonably anticipated.
For more detailed information, go to OSHA Rules-Excavations and read up on the many regulatory requirements related to excavations. Once you do, you will clearly see the value in taking the Competent Person - Excavation class through Safety Center Incorporated* (SCI).
*This program is specifically designed in accordance with California state regulations. Requirements may differ in other states. Check local regulations applicable at your location.
