| Prerequisites: | Please be aware that attendees of all training programs delivered by IVES must have functional English language reading, writing and speaking skills. |
Important Details
- This program is for persons with a moderate level of forklift operating experience and is not suitable for beginners.
- Trainees will be sent a Counterbalanced Forklift Operator Reference Manual in advance. Trainees must read the entire workbook, complete the quizzes throughout and bring their completed workbook to the program. Completion of the workbook is madatory and successful completion of this program depends on it.
- PPE: Trainees MUST wear steel-toed shoes, and bring a hard hat if possible.
- A portion of this program will be outdoors therefore wear appropriate clothing.
- It is the registering company's responsibility to ensure that each registered trainee requires certification on the counterbalanced forklift. This training program is for counterbalanced forklifts only and does NOT include the narrow aisle forklift (reach truck), or powered pallet truck.
- Unique conditions specific to the equipment and/or working environment encountered by operators may require that employers provide additional training and evaluation where appropriate. For more information please visit our website -> Resource Center, Regulations and Standards.

$250 per person plus HST - Payable to IVES Training Group, Inc.

Program Details
The Forklift Operator Training Program is delivered at our training facility on an open enrollment basis and is truly one of IVES flagship programs. Trainees receive in-depth instruction on applicable regulations, safe forklift operation as well as extensive hands-on exercises. Each trainees knowledge and skill level is evaluated and only those able to demonstrate a minimum level of operational competence receive documentation of successful program completion.
Trainees should have a moderate level of experience on the equipment and will be required to read and complete the Forklift Operator Reference Manual well in advance of the program. This program is delivered in four (4) phases over the period of one day.

Classroom theory training - 50%
Practical hands-on training - 50%

Program Outline
Phase 1 - Theory Training
During Phase 1 the trainer guides trainees through a comprehensive and interactive review of the operator workbook covering:
- Applicable regulations
- Types of forklifts
- Main parts of a forklift
- Understanding forklift safety
- Fuels and batteries
Phase 2 - Theory Evaluation
Phase 2 starts with a written test based on the concepts covered in the operator's reference manual. The test consist of ten (10) multiple choice/essay-type question. These tests are graded and returned to the trainees and then reviewed to ensure understanding. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass this phase of the program.
Phase 3 - Practical Training
Phase 3 is the hands-on portion of the program where trainees are shown the pre-use inspection, safe operating procedures, and parking/shut-down procedures and then given the opportunity to practice under the helpful eye of the program trainer.
Phase 4 - Practical Evaluation
In Phase 4 trainees are assessed as having reached a minimum skill level are individually evaluated using a counterbalanced forklift in a reasonably challenging course. Following this evaluation, trainees are de-briefed and given the opportunity to address any issues they may have regarding any phase of the program. Each successful trainee's employer will receive official records and documents shortly after the end of the program.
