But first, check out all the places we are delivering training this month...

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of our first training program specifically designed for online delivery.

The MEWP Operations Supervisor Online Training Program is now available to all companies that want to be sure their supervisors have the knowledge required to confidently navigate the increasingly complex world of mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) use in today’s modern workplaces.

“It seemed like a logical place to start,” says IVES Director of Training, Rob Vetter.

“MEWP supervisor training is required by ANSI A92 standards, so there’s a need for it, but since there’s no hands-on element in the requirements, it’s the type of program that lends itself perfectly for online delivery,” he continued.

Roneel Shankar, IVES General Manager, clarified: “Online training isn't new for us. Since COVID, our Trainer Recertifications have been primarily digital. Unlike self-led options, these remain synchronous, scheduled events led by an IVES Certified Master Trainer.

We offer our classroom theory online through the IVES Integrated Operator Training Programs.

We also occasionally provide online Trainer Upgrades, though these are rare and typically reserved for unique circumstances.

When the pandemic and new MEWP regulations hit in 2020, we moved fast to launch our first self-paced online supervisor and trainer update programs.

They met the need at the time, but we knew we could do more.

We are proud to introduce the all-new MEWP Operations Supervisor Online Training Program!

Powered by industry-leading interactive software to deliver an engaging, immersive, high-energy learning experience right from your IVES Member Dashboard!”

For the average learner, it takes about 90-minutes to complete the program, which covers:

-  Rules and Regulations

-  MEWP Selection and Suitability

-  Safe Use Planning

-  Hazard Identification and Protective Actions

-  Safe Work Procedures

-  General Requirements

A 15-question test follows the study session, and a Certificate of Completion can be printed, or stored on an electronic device upon successful completion.

Graduates also receive access to a range of helpful documents shown during the program designed to support and assist with items such as equipment and site inspections, hazard identification and risk assessment, task and personnel requirements, equipment selection, and more.

Head to www.ivestraining.com today and sign up for our exciting new online program- simply navigate to the Online section in our navigation bar, select the Online MEWP Program, choose from our US, US/Canada, or Canada versions, and add your program to your cart to get started!

Once your payment is complete, you can start the program at a time that works best for you—giving you the flexibility to begin whenever you’re ready.

We can’t wait for you to experience everything this new program has to offer.

Minn-Dak Trainer Program Takes the Cake!

On April 29th, while delivering a Trainer Certification Program at Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative in Wahpeton ND., IVES Certified Master Trainer, Kyle Clephane, realized that the next day would be IVES 45th anniversary.

With that in mind, Kyle stopped off at a local bakery on his way home and ordered a large, Trainer-sized cake that he picked up the next morning and brought to the program to share and celebrate with his trainees.

What a great guy!

A vehicle maintenance company in Worcestershire has been fined after one of its workers was crushed under a one-tonne concrete block.

The father -of-two, 35, had been working for Redditch-based BA Mobile Fleet Services Limited when the incident happened on 14 December 2023.

His leg injuries were so severe his  left foot and lower leg subsequently had to be amputated, while he sustained serious injuries to his right leg. The man was also dismissed from his job after the incident.

The then 33-year-old had been inside an HGV box trailer as it was being loaded with the one-tonne concrete blocks. The vehicle was being loaded in preparation for a Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) brake test. He had been inside the trailer with a colleague while a third worker loaded the blocks using a forklift truck. It was during this process that the forklift truck ‘nudged’ a stack of blocks inside the trailer, causing them to topple on to the man’s legs – resulting in his devastating and life-changing injuries.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that BA Mobile Fleet Services Limited had failed to take appropriate precautions to segregate workers from moving vehicles on site. The investigation also identified that the company had not provided training to the forklift truck driver and they had not authorised him to operate such vehicles.

Preventing workplace transport incidents requires organisations to implement proven control measures consistently. This means conducting thorough risk assessments, maintaining equipment rigorously, and empowering workers to identify hazards before incidents occur.

You can find comprehensive guidance on workplace transport on our website.

BA Mobile Fleet Services Limited of Unit 2 The Works, Tanworth Lane, Redditch, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act. The company was fined £30,000 and was ordered to pay £4,325 costs at a hearing at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on 15 April 2026.

HSE inspector Emma Page said:

“The injuries sustained here by this young man have been truly life-changing.

“Too many people are injured or killed every year in workplace transport related incidents.

“Companies should do all they can to ensure all workers go home safely to their families at the end of each day.

“We will take action against those who fail to do so.”

This HSE prosecution was brought by enforcement lawyer Edward Parton and paralegal officer Rebecca Withell.

Q: Hi Bob,

A driver had his forks to low while traveling off the ship on to a ramp causing damage (aprox 1/8 inch of metal is bent up and has a sharp edge to it) no cracks appear.

I am wondering if this is still good to continue oprations?

A: Hopefully the operator was not hurt and hopefully they are undergoing some refresher training for improper operations.

Assuming the damage you referred to happened to the forks, taking a hit like that can cause unseen damage and attempting to repair them may potentially compromise their integrity.

I would recommend tossing the forks and replacing them.

You could also call a dealer for the forklift and ask them to inspect and repair, but for the money that would probably cost, it would be cheaper to just buy a new set.
